A Real Paranormal Encounter From Germany

My Paranormal Encounter – Jason Lyons

Word of advice: think twice about moving into a renovated old building. If anyone else has lived or seen something like this, let me know. I’d love to have some sort of answer or at least the certainty that I didn’t make it all up. It took a while to share this story as I didn’t want people to laugh. But here goes…

I’ve lived in Germany for a few years now, and my wife and I recently moved to this new apartment. I refer to it as “new,” indicating its recent renovation. The former Soviet structure had undergone a bit of a transformation into a residential complex. The result was as expected: old and ugly on the outside, modern and cosy on the inside. It feels strange. Plus, the place is very new, meaning we have no neighbours yet, and… it’s just eerie.

When we walk through the hallways, the whole place echoes with emptiness. I could swear I could hear footsteps and distant voices around the building sometimes. My wife says the sound is probably from the building right next to ours, amplified by the empty spaces.

I… well I’m not really sure I’m on board with that explanation anymore.

A Face Distorted Beyond Recognition

It was the first night I ever stayed alone in our new place. My wife had a meeting with some friends from high school and I chose to stay and spend time by myself. I cooked dinner, played some video games, and was falling asleep watching a movie when I suddenly startled myself awake. Weirded out, I looked around but saw nothing, only the dim light of the TV illuminating the room. I had this feeling of intense dread; I don’t quite know how to describe it.

Then I remembered my dream, it came back to me in that moment, this crystal-clear image in my head. It was a distorted, melted face staring at me, surrounded by nothingness. I couldn’t tell if the thing was male or female, just distorted beyond recognition. I’m still struggling to forget it. I have never had a dream like that and it terrified me. I tried to tell myself that it was just a dream as I waited for something to happen, all my nerves on edge. Nothing did…

I felt Observed Like A Gazelle Being Stalked By a Lion

Slowly, I started calming myself down. I began to feel a bit silly, a grown adult cowering in his bed. But suddenly, out of nowhere, I see something move in the dark corridor. I shouted the name of my wife, thinking she might be back, but got no answer. Squinting, I tried to make out any shapes in the darkness. I began to think that perhaps someone had broken into the apartment. The place was silent as I pressed the mute button on the TV remote control. I began looking around for something that I could use as a weapon to protect myself.

That was when I saw the white dots. Two barely visible white dots that were visible for a couple of seconds then shot away into the darkness at high speed. I don’t know for sure if they were eyes, but I felt observed. I think the best way to describe it is that I imagine this must be the exact feeling a gazelle gets when being stalked by a lion. The dread came back with full force. My heart was pounding and I’m a little embarrassed to say, I hid under the covers! Then… Silence.

I Heard The Whisper In My ear

Suddenly, a whisper broke the silence, a phrase I couldn’t understand. All the hairs on my neck stood upright, the whisper sounding like it was straight into my ear. Not outside, not down the corridor where I saw the movement, this sound was right into my ear. I held my breath, not knowing what else to do but wait, praying whatever it was would leave.

Dread filled my body, rising up to my neck, and closing up my throat. I couldn’t breathe and it felt like a lifetime before I dared emerge from the bed. After some time, a shift occurred, and the previous unease dissipated. The sense of foreboding vanished, replaced by a sensation akin to breaking through the surface of a profound body of water. I took a deep breath and looked around the entire apartment. There was nothing…

Is This The End?

I haven’t told my wife anything about this yet. Ever since this happened I avoided staying in the apartment by myself. It’s been several weeks since my encounter and so far nothing else has happened, but that feeling is still there. It’s almost like something is watching, perhaps waiting for the right moment.

When something like this happens you question yourself. Was it all in my imagination? Perhaps it’s just the feeling of the place making my imagination work overtime. Up to this point, I have never experienced anything otherworldly, but I personally think that this was something paranormal. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if there are any more unexplainable events.
