Encounter with the Supernatural: The Mysterious Haunting Of A Welsh Farmhouse

The tale I’m about to share still sends shivers down my spine. The most mundane nights can turn into restless ones because of these events. It was during a stay at an old farmhouse in Wales, UK. A place that time seemed to have forgotten, that I had a terrifying experience with something supernatural.

Free Accommodation

My name is Sally and back in 1998 I was doing some charity work in Wales. I had a good network of people who would help me out from time to time. On this occasion, a friend of mine had arranged free accommodation for me while I was working in the area. I was told that the farmhouse was fully furnished although it hadn’t been lived in for quite a number of years. A cleaner was hired to go in on a weekly basis but apart from that, nobody lived there.

The Farmhouse was picturesque, yet a mysterious aura enveloped it, especially when night came. I think it was all the stuffed animals and weird ornaments that made the place feel creepy. It was an odd place and one that would only get stranger.

The First Night

It had been a busy day, I was tired and really looking forward to a relaxing evening. I arrived at the farmhouse and spent the first couple of hours looking around and getting acquainted with the place. The house was lovely, very old and rather creepy.

I decided that I would get an early night’s sleep that evening. On my way up the stairs to my bedroom, I noticed what appeared to be an old wooden walking stick, propped up on the first step. The stick was highly polished, clearly very old, and worn on the handle. I’d been left strict instructions to leave everything as I had found it so, I walked past the walking stick without touching it and went to bed.

Bumps In The Night

The first night in that bedroom was a little strange. I think I was on edge because I was on my own and it was a strange environment. There were lots of noises outside that I wasn’t used to, owls, foxes, cats, you name it! The nighttime seemed to be party time for the local wildlife.

I must have laid there for a couple of hours before finally going to sleep. And that’s when the first weird thing happened in that house. I was quickly woken from my sleep by the sound of banging on the stairs. I don’t know for sure but I think there were at least three big bangs. It sounded like something was hitting the stairs with a lot of force.

I jumped out of bed and peered downstairs. The walking stick now lay at the bottom of the stairs. It had clearly fallen over, but how did it make such a loud noise? I was confused and a little creeped out.

The 2nd Night

A large grandfather clock at the entrance to the farmhouse chimed each hour. On my second night at that place, It had just struck eight in the evening when something rather odd happened. Outside, the world was eerily quiet, interrupted only by the occasional owl hooting. Reflecting on it, this location possessed all the components of a classic horror film.

Something Supernatural

I was sat in the bedroom, engrossed in a book, my attention was suddenly captured by a fleeting sight. In the blink of an eye, a hand appeared to swiftly extend through the wall. It was only there for a second before vanishing into thin air. I was terrified and confused at the same time. I wasn’t someone who believed in ghosts, but in that moment, I knew what I had witnessed and I knew that it was something supernatural.

The Final Straw

I had arranged to stay at the old farmhouse for a couple of weeks but I was totally freaked out after just two nights. But the final straw was to come a few days later.

Somehow I managed to convince myself that the mysterious ghost hand was just a figment of my imagination. I stayed at the house and everything was fine for several days. The walking stick would occationally fall from the stairs and I would just put it back. But apart from that, everything was quiet and all was fine.

That weekend I sat reading my book with a glass of wine, the week had gone well and I was happy. It was late and I could feel myself getting sleepy. I was quickly nestled under the cozy blankets, my eyes heavy with sleep. I had even gotten used to the wildlife sounds outside.

Suddenly there was a huge drop in temperature that awakened me. Confused, I looked around, thinking perhaps the window had flown open. That’s when I saw it…

The Ghost And The Shadow

Confused, my brain quickly tried to make sense of what I was seeing. I still to this day do not know exacly how to explain what I saw, it was so weird!

At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, a side effect of waking abruptly. But as my eyes adjusted to the darkness, the figure became clearer. I couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman, but it was undeniably a ghost. Barely visable, but I was without any doubt about what I was seeing.

Its form was ethereal, its clothing tattered shards from a bygone era, making it look like a fragment of history that had lost its way. It moved in a really strange way, like a short piece of film looping over and over again. I had to quint my eyes to focus as it began to fade away.

Paralyzed with fear, I watched its silent movement. Its presence overwhelming the room with a coldness that seeped into every bone of my body. I wanted to screem but I couldn’t, I was frozen with fear.

The entity gradually dissolved into the darkness, revealing something sinister. A darker presence emerged from the fading ghost, exuding a sense of menace. I could only see a shadowy arm and hand in the darkness, with no sight of legs or a defined body.

Looking Back

Years have passed since these events unfolded, yet the memories of that house continue to perplex me. Despite suggestions of sleep paralysis or a vivid dream, I remain steadfast in my belief that what I encountered was beyond the realms of the natural – a truly supernatural experience.
